Biography

BIOGRAPHY
Heejoon Lee pays attention to the aesthetics of design pervading in various locations within the scenery surrounding our lives. He cautiously examines the proportions, balance, and colors of his surrounding environments and seeks subjects for his paintings. Through the process of expanding and editing his collection of sceneries, Lee creates abstract images composed of vertical and horizontal color-planes. He symbolizes the outer scenery and transfers it onto the canvas. In the process of reproducing the images with painting methods, he creates multiple layers and extracts new textures through his brushstrokes, to visualize the layers of time and space he has discovered while observing cityscapes.

Heejoon Lee was born in Seoul, 1988. He graduated from Hongik University with a Bachelor’s degree in Painting and Sculpture in 2012, and received his Master’s degree in Fine Arts at Glasgow School of Art in 2014. He has held solo exhibitions at institutions such as Incheon Art Platform(2021, Incheon), Space So(2021, Seoul). Biography
Lately, I saw this sentence on the road. “If you make a concession, this road becomes a comfortable road, and if you compete, this road becomes a death road” Sometimes the truth is light like a feather. I am always interested in superficial things and all my art works come from that superficial things. My art works begins with reality that is repetitively boring and does not allow us to escape.

I feel more comfortable moving my body than talking or thinking. So far, I have worked in variety of work places. Delivery service, Cooking room, Construction site, Distribution warehouse, Courier loading and unloading; in the workplace landscape, someone was always under the cool shade, and someone could not always escape the sun. Of course, I always belonged to the latter.

Many people say this is the era of high technology. We open new doors everyday with new expectations. We have the most advanced services and technologies that are closely connected. However, there is always someone’s boring and hard work behind it. Their work is hidden behind the high tech glare.

The workplaces are definitely next to us, but they are invisible to us. I want to continue working on this. When two mirrors face each other, infinitely dense spaces are created that we could not see. I will keep looking for those spaces.

BIOGRAPHY

Seoul Art Space Geumcheon(SASG) published [ONOFF]: 2021 Annual Report & LIFE LOGGING.

Photography. @jskstudio_official

ONOFF

‘Seoul Art Space Geumcheon’ is an artist residence that supports experimental and new artists. <ONOFF> is an annual report and booklet published by Seoul Art Space Geumcheon. <ONOFF> consists of <2021 Seoul Art Space Geumcheon Annual Report>, which contains the works of the 12th tenant artists, and a booklet <LIFE LOGING: 2021 Seoul Art Space Geumcheon> that collects and records the daily lives of the tenant artists at the Seoul Art Space Geumcheon.

"ONOFF" is a publication that embodies artists with both identities as artists and residents with the concepts of "ON" and "OFF." The Annual Report, which reflects ON as an artist, was created in the form of information-oriented books, and LIFE LOGING, which contains OFF as a resident, was designed in a free and diverse format reflecting the image of each artist.

We applied consistent graphics and typography to the front of the cover to build visual unity, and reflected the characteristics of books that have different visual characteristics but share topics. In particular, when taking books out of the film box, graphics intersect each other and ON and OFF appear, and through this visual device, we tried to show the subject of the book more clearly.

Biography
Seulki Ki treats photography as a main medium, and has explored its reproducibility and limitations in forms of books, videos, and installations. Intrigued by body gestures, language, and collisions between them, she finds and assembles replacements that can actualize her flow of thoughts. She endows a character to the visible, weaves the relationships of elements, reverses the flow of time, moves through space, and she manages to mediate the viewer’s thought flows. Her work alone stays as evidence in this whole process, induces different interpretations than usual ones, and activates psychological mechanism to associate related concepts.

Biography
Sang A Han’s work begins from the memory of everyday experiences and the emotions they engender. In the course of various life changes as an artist and woman, and also simply as an individual, she sometimes encounters a complex and nuanced emotion irreducible to a single word. She has said that these emotions ‘stick to the body, seeping into the skin like a kind of pattern’. Rather than sort this emotive memory into a logical, well-organized narrative, she draws out its fragmentary and contradictory aspects in a figurative and symbolic visual language.

Biography
Bangjoo Kim produces works with performance and performative elements. He investigates the border between society and himself, performing mechanical movements imbued with rules to remediate himself as an individual. By relating to the body as an object that moves mechanically, Kim views structures, including himself, from a new perspective.

Biography
Winter Gyeoul Kim questions how the revealed world is connected to the rest of the world by tracing the revealed to imagine its relation to the invisible. As the inconspicuous things support the things that are not, the idea that our daily lives and the world we live in seem balanced in good or bad ways is present throughout her work.

Biography
Hyunjung Park's abstract paintings respond to the current visual environment. The process involves simulating the image by alternating between two interfaces - paper and iPad, and materializing the image on the canvas. Park's imagination intervenes in the course of oscillation, expanding and shifting the conventional notion of abstract painting.

BIOGRAPHY
Mackerel Safranski forms a work in a dense description of the scene that comes to intuitively and listing it sequentially. And the viewers naturally generate the image of the narrative by inferring the connections of the scenes in the same way as Apopenia on the unconscious layer. She thinks that a narrative of the structure occurs at this time. The bodies in her works are ambiguous. The body with tension and ambiguity dismantles the narrative with the incident and expands out of the rescue.

Biography
Hyekyung HAM is a South Korean-based video artist. As an act to give fictional reality in stories, her work weaves image and voice with sense of place to make the audience recall certain memories or imagine the next scenes in their respective minds. Her work is a minimalistic form of depicting the reality and a slice of personal thought made from a pile of what she is either aware or unaware of. In her works, she portrays scenes capturing a situation she can see herself in by translating them to text. Instead of what happens next, Ham speaks of what happens to the characters inner minds going through the situation. Protagonists in her videos, roaming around and feeling solitude and insecurity, face our own lives and worlds as an unaffiliated being.

Biography
Woosung Lee is conducting various painting and drawing experiments using the keyword, “life and art.” His paintings begin with a sudden realization of an object that has always been around. His close friends and parents as well as the objects that are in connection to him in his day-to-day life, such as the table setting at a restaurant, a bus stop, and the scenery in a park along the Han River often become motives.

The series of the “Folded and Unfolded Paintings,” introduced after large canvas based work in his earlier days, are drawn on square-shaped fabric in the size of 2 meters mostly yet as large as 12 meters. The form of hanging mechanism begins to maximize public display effects as it allows viewers to see the paintings at a distance and invites them to come closer. On the other hand, 11-centimeter small-size square-shaped paper drawings call viewers to come even closer to see objects in details and eventually find intimate connections at his/her personal level. The size of the drawings and its medium represents his intent towards how he establishes a relationship between the viewer and the outside world through painting.

In continuation of his experiments, he expands the horizon using various methods including drawing, painting, and animation.
